Roles & responsibilities — supplemental (IATF only)
Plain-language summary
Top management must put names against the customer-facing duties: special characteristics, quality objectives and training, corrective and preventive actions, product design and development, capacity analysis, logistics, customer scorecards and customer portals.
What the clause is really asking
IATF lists the duties automotive customers most often see dropped, and demands documented assignment of each — so when the portal pings or the scorecard slips, a specific person is already responsible.
What auditors look for
Auditors ask for the documented assignments and then verify life in them: who watches the customer portal and how often? Who ran the last capacity analysis? Show the corrective action owner for the last customer complaint.
Typical evidence
Assignment matrix or appointment letters covering the listed duties; portal access lists; capacity analysis records with owner; scorecard review records.
How to comply — recommendations
Extend your QMS RACI with an IATF column covering each listed duty, assign deputies for absence cover, and tie portal accounts to role mailboxes so resignations don't sever the link to your customer.
Common nonconformities
Portal credentials still belonging to someone who left; nobody assigned to capacity analysis; special characteristics with no named owner.
